This Agency’s mission is to work towards “conserving, protecting, and improving the natural resources and environment of the state.” Within this organization, one of its units works “to maintain and improve air quality so health standards are met while the economic development of the state is not impeded.”
This Agency is required to report on air quality. Machines and computers all over the United States constantly collect air quality information and data on a daily basis, this data comes in many forms. Each state is responsible for reporting on its findings in a specific form to the EPA. Stiff penalties are imposed for late reporting and inaccurate analysis. This was often the norm, as this involved a manual process, which was full of errors and inconsistencies. In addition, they needed to migrate from a Data General Environment to UNIX.
Destiny met with key individuals from the Agency to gain insight into their needs and understand the complexity of the different reporting mechanisms that were required. We worked closely with the Agency’s staff to develop an application in a UNIX environment that proved to be an optimal solution to meet the complex reporting needs of the Department.
Reporting is now consistent, accurate, timely, and automated. Automation of the reporting has eliminated errors and has saved the State from having to pay stiff penalties for late reporting. It also provides a platform for future system enhancements. Human and technological resource requirements are minimized with the use of this automated application. The Agency now has an efficient way to complete reporting on a multitude of variables in a timely fashion.
This Organization is the focal point for a State’s Department of Health Services injury prevention efforts, both epidemiological investigations and implementation of prevention programs to reduce intentional and unintentional injuries. Prevention efforts include epidemiological surveillance, planning and consensus building, interventions, policy development, professional education and training, and public information dissemination.
Destiny Corporation assisted this branch in its effort to make injury related data available to the public. At the time, the only means for the public to obtain injury related statistics is by calling the branch and making a request. This branch then does the necessary programming to generate the requested information. This is a time consuming and costly task for this organization’s personnel.
The Organization decided it was time to use the web to its advantage and to allow the public to easily access injury data from their web site. The data was in a table and the organization needed a company that had both programming and Web expertise. Destiny’s areas of expertise include both web and application development capabilities and can tie the two together. Destiny’s combination of these skills drove the organization to hire our consulting resources for this project.
The websites new capabilities allowed this organization time to focus on injury prevention efforts and the implementation of new prevention programming, eliminating the timely and costly task of manually generating reports.
