Company Background
This agency’s mission is to preserve, protect, and improve the state’s natural resources and environment. Within this organization, one of its units works “to maintain and improve air quality so health standards are met while the economic development of the state is not impeded.”
Objectives
A number of state and federal organizations throughout the United States use various technologies to collect air quality information on a daily basis. Each state is then required to report its findings on a specific form and submit it to the EPA. Late submissions and inaccurate reporting result in stiff penalties. Unfortunately, this was often the norm, as this procedure involved a manual process full of errors and inconsistencies. This firm was an agency required to collect and report data on air quality.
Resolutions
Destiny Corporation met with key individuals from the agency to gain insight into their needs and learn the complexities of the various reporting mechanisms required. Working closely with their staff, we developed an application in a UNIX environment that proved to be an optimal solution that met the complex reporting and predictive needs of this department.
Benefits
Human and technological resource requirements have been significantly minimized with the use of this application. Reporting is now consistent, accurate, timely, and automated. Automation was particularly important considering substantial penalties imposed for delayed Federal and State submissions and erroneous data. In addition, the application provides a platform for future system enhancements.
The agency now has an efficient way to complete reporting on a multitude of variables in a timely fashion.
Company Background
This organization leads one state’s department of health services injury prevention efforts, and implements programs to reduce intentional and unintentional injuries. Their prevention efforts include epidemiological surveillance, planning and consensus building, interventions, policy development, professional education and training, and public information dissemination.
Objectives
At the time, the only means for the public to obtain injury related statistics was to ask for the information via phone. Upon receipt, the branch would then execute the necessary programming to generate the information requested. This process was a time consuming and costly task for the organization’s personnel.
Resolutions
The organization decided it was time to use the web to its advantage and allow public access to injury data from its web site. This data currently resided in a table, so they needed a firm that had both programming and web expertise. Destiny Corporation easily built this platform allowing for dissemination of statewide data upon request, along with ad hoc reporting through the states web portal. Destiny Corporation made injury related data available to the public.
Benefits
The website’s new capabilities combined with the elimination of manually generated reports allowed this organization to focus their efforts on issues pertaining to the public, such as injury prevention and the implementation of new prevention programs.
